Starting your simmer pot

  • You will have received a small beige muslin bag full of dried herbs and other ingredients. This is your simmer pot bag!

  • ** Remove the simmer pot bag from the gift bag before using it **

  • Add 3-4 cups of water to a pot (such as a dutch oven or other sauce pot), then either place the bag directly into the pot, OR, open the bag and empty the contents to the pot.

  • Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to a gentle simmer. The pot can be kept going for several hours, be sure to continue to add water to maintain the water level.

  • Spiritually, the winter solstice symbolizes a time of reflection, death and rebirth, and renewal, representing the longest night before the return of light. It encourages introspection and stillness, honoring the darkness as a necessary part of the cycle that makes the subsequent growth and light possible. Many traditions view it as a period for rest, shedding what is no longer needed, and preparing for new beginnings, a concept seen in celebrations like the pagan Yule.
